Trends for 2007 The real estate market will continue to correct itself in 2007, especially during the winter and spring markets. A 2-5% correction will be seen in Southern Maine during the first two quarters. Time on the market for homes that are priced accurately will be 90-120 days on average. Home offices are in high demand. With gas prices high, many people will be doing some of their work from home. Garage updates. Garages are no longer places to dump things. Look for custom cabinets on the walls, workspaces that are organized, storage bins on the walls, mini refrigerators, insulated garages with some having heat and air conditioning. “Serenity now” spaces are also very popular. A one stop spot for exercise, meditation, and yoga is more common and saunas and steam showers are hot items. Tired of shoveling? Heated patios, walkways and driveways are starting to show up on the market. Baby boomers especially are looking for ways to decrease outdoor winter maintenance. Snoring rooms are a relationship saver! A separate room off the master bedroom to give relief to those whom have endured a snorer for years are another feature beginning to appear in homes. Green Homes. Look for more homes built with the environment in mind. Sustainable design looks at homes holistically and not just as a group of unrelated systems thrown together. Natural forms of energy, such as wind, solar and geothermal are being incorporated in new construction. Mixing finishes on kitchen base and wall cabinets. Matchy-matchy is out in kitchen design. The new look is to have stained-wood bases and painted wood upper cabinets. These are just some of the “In Things” coming for the New Year! I’ll keep you updated on other new things I see!
